Directing is a constant process of trying to understand who you are.

Directing and queerness arrived to me around the same time. That is not a coincidence. The moment I recognized that the deep internal disconnected feeling could build some ladder towards a freer, more integrated, happier version of myself, I knew I could never head in any other direction. Both of these identities are life long pursuits. My work requires constant intimacy and trust building, while my queerness requires consistent growth towards a more intimate connection with myself, and a trust that the attempt to free myself is a worthwhile pursuit. For you, reader, I ask that you deepend who you are by plunging through your own vulnerabilities and share them with loved ones in a hope for a deeper connection. That is the role of the director, that is the role of the human being. While these things intersec, they must not disappear within each other. Directing is a creative and heirachal project. The understanding of the self is an interdependent non-heirachal state of being. To intertwine these things is to lose the joys of the unique opportunities both experiences posses. Directing allows an air of play and curiosity that is in total service of a story, character, and packaged journey. While the understanding of the self bends to none of those things. For the self, discovery is agnostic; showing and hiding from us with no perception of a logic or time. The artistry in both of these works lies within a commitment to a total presence and surrender to curiosity.
